Architecting Water Supply System – A Perspective from Value of Flexibility
نویسندگان
چکیده
Water supply system is socially, politically, and financially critical, and long term security of water supply has to be met in spite of the huge uncertainty in its operation decades since the time of design. Everyone concerned with architecting such a system faces a common challenge: how do we design a system to perform well in a constantly evolving and thus risky context? As one of the water-stress countries, Singapore dealt the challenge by architecting its water supply system around several sources to increase its flexibility. Using a real option perspective, this paper examines various water supply resources and examines their flexibility values in actively dealing with the risks. It is found that incorporating alternative water resources increases the flexibility of the water supply system and helps the system from financial cost, political risk, and socioeconomic risk aspects. Through the Singapore water supply system study, this paper presents to decision makers a perspective of flexibility to manage risk with quantitative awareness using a real option approach based on multiple objectives.

Assessment of safety in drinking water supply system of Birjand city using World Health Organization’s water safety plan
Background: The conventional method for managing drinking water quality is not a suitable preventive strategy for protecting public health. A water safety plan (WSP) presents a systematic approach to ensuring the health and quality of drinking water. This study assessed the drinking water supply system safety of Birjand city using the WHO’s WSP. Methods: This investigation employed the WSP-QA ...

Software-intensive systems are increasingly part of new products, which leads to significant business impact. This is especially true for the automotive industry where a majority of new innovations are realized through the use of software. The architecture of the software-intensive system will enable value creation when working properly or, in the worst case, prevent value creation. Lean Thinki...

متن کاملSystems Architecting for Survivability: Limitations of Existing Methods for Aerospace Systems
Survivability may be defined as the ability of a system to minimize the impact of a finite disturbance on value delivery. This paper reviews existing methods of specifying, evaluating, and verifying survivability for aerospace systems in order to identify opportunities for improvement. First, the systems architecting methods underlying this research are described. Second, survivability challeng...
